(incomplete) Review - Mournful Congregation : The book of kings (2011) by Andalusian Dog

To be honest, I can't say I was the biggest fan of funeral doom metal when I was growing up. I always considered it to be boring, slow and talentless. However as I opened up my eyes to more music and gave funeral doom metal a proper goal, I was finally able to see its divine sadness carried by the painfully slow BPM.

Mournful Congregation is a band from Adelaide, who is one of the better known bands among the genre (with other notable bands including Worship, Thergaton, Skepticism, Disembowelment, Pantheist, Evoken, Esoteric etc). The band is fronted by Damon Good who also play in other exciting bands.

The book of kings is an epic album consisting of only 4 songs.

Give me your numbers! - Facebook events page by Andalusian Dog

So today I got an invitation from a "friend" of mine on Facebook that asked me for my phone number.
I've noticed a lot of people creating event pages such as the one I've recently been invited into.
A lot of people don't seem very fussed about giving out their numbers on a public event that anyone could potentially view.
Out of curiosity I searched event pages with a heading that included 'numbers' on Facebook. Like I suspected, hundreds of pages appeared.

I think I want to prank call these people.
Once I finish all my assignments for uni, I think I will.
I will make my own Schindler's list, but only I will not be saving these people.
I will just be prank calling them for my own enjoyment.
And possibly teach them a lesson about privacy.

6. Album Review - War of Currents by Meniscus (2011) by Andalusian Dog

Meniscus is an Australian band based in Sydney who play an ambient but heavy post-rock. Although it loosely follows the infamous post rock formula of "Soft-Loud-Soft", they are one of the most unique bands in the scene. Being only a four piece band (three piece music wise, as Marty is in charge of the visuals), their sound is very well layered due to the use of loop pedals.

The beautiful machinery that allows Meniscus' deep sounds.

The three musicians are very proficient with their instruments especially the guitarist, who creates a unique tone. The album starts off with the track Room 3327, which starts off with a spoken sample sounding similar to Microsoft Sam generated by a computer. Then there are swells which is looped. Soon guitar melody kicks in and the music builds and builds adding more layers as it progresses. Then the music reaches the climax, where you can here the crushing tremolo melodies along with some heavy drumming.

My favourite song of the album is Immersions, a song which reminds me of many Japanese post rock. It starts off with some chilling ambience which brings about an intense emotion to the listener. Then with a soft drumming, a minimalistic melody starts to be played by the guitar putting me in a safe zone. The song makes me feel like I'm sitting under a forest of a green tree on a sunny morning as the sunlight pass through the canopy to reach me. The song progresses, reaching a climax featuring a breakdown with a rhythm you often encounter in many metalcore songs. After the breakdown a heavy but blissful chords play with an ambient tremolo melody, a nice way to wrap up the song.
Overall, the album is very entertaining and relaxing. Unlike many post rock, the album is not minimalistic at all and is very well layered.
8/10

Thou shalt love thy love neighbour as thyself by Andalusian Dog

"네 이웃을 네 자신 같이 사랑하라"
----------------------------------

I really would love to.
But what if I don't love myself?
Am I allowed to not love my neighbours?

정말 그러고 싶지만
내가 내 자신을 사랑하지 않는다면 어떻하나요?
내 이웃을 사랑하지 않아도 되는건가요?
